News: Report: BBM iOS app won’t support iPad at launch

Written on May 17th, 2013 by iPod Bloggerno shouts

BlackBerry’s recently announced iOS app for its BBM messaging service is expected to launch this summer, but it apparently won’t be coming to iPad right away. According to a report, Vivek Bhardwaj, head of software portfolio at BlackBerry, said BBM will be coming to “iOS phones running iOS 6 and higher.” Bhardwaj said smartphone is the company’s “real focus” for BBM. “When you start looking at tablets,…

Ask iLounge: Using a Wi-Fi hard drive with an iPad

Written on May 14th, 2013 by iPod Bloggerno shouts

Q: I have an iPad 2 and am looking for more hard drive space. I see Macally, Hyperdrive, Kingston, and others all offer Wi-Fi hard drive storage devices, but can they all store pictures, music, movies, and apps? I am in need of an external hard drive to add more of my apps, due to my iPad’s storage being too small. I would like to add more apps for entertainment and work! Please help, thanks greatly! – Mike A: Unfortunately, due to the way that…

Review: Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad 2, iPad (3rd/4th-Gen)

Written on May 7th, 2013 by iPod Bloggerno shouts

FabricSkin’s exterior, at least on the black version we received for review, is listed as “matt leather.” The matte material is actually faux leather that feels like soft-touch rubber, while other colors come in other fabrics, such as cotton. The smooth, soft material wraps around the back of the case to the front, and while it won’t be mistaken for real cowhide under any circumstances, it’s still nice. Other than a hole…

Ask iLounge: Organizing video collections on an iPad

Written on May 3rd, 2013 by iPod Bloggerno shouts

Q: How do I organize videos on my iPad in the same way that I organize my books? I’d like to put them into some type of collections, or if not collections, then folders would be acceptable also. It’s frustrating, not being able to group related videos. Hope you can point me in the right direction. – Ernest A: Unfortunately, the built-in iPad Videos app offers very little in the form of organization, as it’s designed to replicate the…

Review: Twisted Logic TekTuk for iPad

Written on April 24th, 2013 by iPod Bloggerno shouts

TekTuk measures about 13” long, 10” tall, and stretches to a little over 2” thick. Opening it reveals a 5.5” tall mesh pocket inside one cover, and tablet, phone, and accessory pockets stacked on top of each other on the other side. The idea is that that side will hang down, with the other between the layers of your bed. You can then situate your devices in their respective pockets, and charge them with cords run through elastic…

Review: Logitech Keyboard Folio for iPad 2, iPad (3rd/4th-Gen)

Written on April 3rd, 2013 by iPod Bloggerno shouts

Rather than a hard plastic shell or a less flattering pocket, Keyboard Folio uses a foam-backed rubber frame to cradle your second-, third-, or fourth-generation iPad. Because the materials are pliable, they can be flexed during the installation process. Unfortunately, this design leaves the top and bottom edges completely exposed except for the corners, while adding extra thickness. It would have been easier to accept the case’s added size…

Review: Thought Out PED4 Planet IPM10 Pivoting Stand for iPad mini

Written on March 26th, 2013 by iPod Bloggerno shouts

Just like PED4 Planet BH50, the new IPM10 consists of two main pieces: a glossy plastic base designed to sit on a desk, and a matching plastic Apple device holder permanently attached to a stainless steel rod. Here, the footprint of the three-lobed base is between 7” to 7.5” at its widest points, moderate surface area for any iPad stand to occupy, while a metal screw sits in the center. You attach the iPad mini holder’s stainless…

It’s here (very) early: iLounge’s iPad + iPad mini Buyers’ Guide!

Written on March 24th, 2013 by iPod Bloggerno shouts

Apple’s late 2012 launch of the iPad mini was hardly unexpected—everyone had a pretty good idea what it would look like and do, months in advance. But even we were somewhat surprised that it arrived along with the fourth-generation iPad. The new iPad was released only six months after the last “new iPad,” a third-generation model that was in the process of breaking sales records when it was abruptly yanked from Apple’s…
