News: iOS users note missing, disappearing Camera photos

A number of iOS users have noted that some of the photos they’ve taken with iOS 7’s Camera application have disappeared without a trace, an issue that we’ve confirmed firsthand. Posts in Apple’s number of Apple discussion forums show how some users are experiencing the issue, while struggling to explain why it’s happening. Based on what we’ve seen, the problem appears to be sporadic, affecting only a small number…

Ask iLounge: Sync only selected photos between devices via iCloud

Q: How can I download only select photos from iCloud to my iPad? I like to take my photos from my iPhone that I then upload to iCloud, but to put them into albums on my iPad. I don’t want to re-download the entire Photo Stream, which it seems to do every time I try to get those newer pictures onto the iPad. – Samantha A: iCloud Photo Stream is actually designed to sync all of your photos between devices and back to your computer, and in fact…

Ask iLounge: New photos appearing from lost/stolen iPhone

Q: My iPhone was lost/stolen last November. Now, I’m noticing pictures on my new iPhone and my iPad taken by the new owner of my lost/stolen iPhone. It must be syncing through iCloud somehow, which means my stuff is syncing too. I called AppleCare, outsourced now to a company called Emphasis. They haven’t a clue on what to do. Anyone have a fix for this? – dlbasil A: Your photos are most likely syncing via the iCloud Photo Stream feature,…

Ask iLounge: Photo Stream and one-way syncing of photos

Q: Can the iCloud Photo Stream feature send photos from my iPod touch to my iPad but not send photos from my iPad to my iPod touch? I only want newly added photos from my iPod touch to appear on my iPad, but I don’t want my iPad sending photos to my iPod touch. Can this be done? – Anonymous A: Unfortunately, this is not the way Photo Stream is designed to work. Once enabled on a device, Photo Stream pushes all new photos from that device up…

Tip of the Day: Rotating images from within the Photos app

While the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad generally do a good job of rotating images to their proper orientation, every once in a while an odd grip or shot will confound it, leaving you with some work to do before it’s ready to share or archive. Luckily, there’s an easy—and built-in—way to fix this. Simply select the photo you need to fix, tap the Edit button, and tap the rotate button—it’s the one that looks like…

News: New case photos: iPod touch 4G, iPod shuffle 4G?

iLounge has received more photos supposedly showing cases for upcoming iPod models. As with the case photos discovered last week, these cases are from X-Doria, and offer a glimpse into the shape and features of the fourth-generation iPod touch and a smaller, squarish iPod that could be either the fourth-generation iPod shuffle or sixth-generation iPod nano—notably, it was referred to as the former in our e-mail exchange with the company. These…
